Water Avens Seeds geum rivale – is an attractive wetland plant that grows well on moist soil and is found in water meadows and wet woodland. It will grow in sun or full shade, attracting a variety of insects including bees, and dragonflies. Water Avens is a low growing plant and produces creamy pink flowers from May to September. The foliage provides useful ground cover. In gardens Water Avens can be introduced at the edge of a pond where it looks best growing amongst other wetland plants such as Purple loosestrife, Hemp agrimony, Gypsywort, Fleabane, Meadow sweet and Water Mint. In a woodland setting it might look best with Red campion, Wood Crane’s Bill and Nettle leaved bellflower.
