Fennel  Seeds Foeniculum vulgare  – is a naturalised plant of ancient origins, that grows on bare ground and is well suited to coastal situations, on sites where there is plenty of sunlight. The tall plants have feathery leaves, that smell of aniseed when crushed. Fennel is a good nectar plant for insects such as Bees. The attractive yellow flowers appear from July to September and are delicate and lace-like. Fennel can be grown particularly well against a wall, and as a backdrop to plants such Wild Carrot, Ladies Bedstraw, Viper’s Bugloss, Yellow-horned Poppy, and Sea Pink.
