Dyer's Greenweed seeds genista tinctoria – is actually a very tiny shrub and thrives in grassy situations in sunny positions. In the wild it can be found growing on poor soils, in traditional hay meadows, roadsides and in field margins. As a garden plant, Dyer’s Greenweed works particularly well in a rock garden. It is a low growing species, typically attaining a maximum of height of about 70 cms. In the wild, Dyer’s Greenweed is a host plant to the Green hairstreak butterly that will lay its eggs on the leaves. Plants produce golden yellow flowers that appear from June to August. Dyer’s Greenweed looks best growing with wild flowers such as Oxeye daisies, Greater Knapweed, Great Burnet and Red Clover.
