Vervain -verbena officinalis – grows best on well drained soils in full sun. It is found in a variety of habitats but especially on open, bare ground. In wildflower gardens, Vervain is useful for growing within rough patches of grass where it competes well with other plants. It can also be grown as a clump in a sunny flower border where it would attract Butterflies. Vervain typically grows about 2 or 3 foot high and has masses of tiny lilac flowers. These are very pretty on close inspection and appear along the stems from July to September. Vervain looks best growing with wildflowers such as Tufted vetch, Meadow vetchling, Upright hedge Parsley and Horseshoe vetch..

How to grow Vervain Seeds
Vervain seeds should be sown in spring or autumn, either outside, where they are to flower, or in seed trays and covered lightly with compost. Vervain seeds are usually easy to germinate and the seedlings, can be pricked out and grown on, for planting out later in the year. Plants will self seed readily given good conditions.
